NASHCO Statement on Health Republic Insurance of New Jersey

September 13, 2016

WASHINGTON, DC – Kelly Crowe, CEO of the National Alliance of State Health CO-OPs, made the following statement regarding the announcement that Health Republic Insurance of New Jersey will cease to offer plans after 2016:

“The news out of New Jersey is yet another sign that the very programs put in place to protect CO-OPs and other insurers from the uncertainties of the early years of the ACA marketplaces simply aren’t functioning as intended. Insurance is an extremely complex industry, and CO-OPs were faced with the additional challenge of being underfunded from the start. The remaining CO-OPs are firmly committed to providing an affordable and high quality health insurance options to Americans who need them most, but will need an equally firm commitment from those tasked with ensuring the effectiveness of the ACA to be successful in the future.”
